About BWGA

BWGA was founded in 1964 to promote golf among women in a social setting. Today, we aim to make golf approachable and accessible for women who have advanced beyond the beginner level, while providing opportunities for tournament play, match play, and inter-league competition for more experienced golfers. Our core values are golf, community, friendship, and competition.

What We Offer

Preferred tee times May through early October

  • Tuesday morning 18 hole, league members only (first tee time typically 8:30am)

  • Tuesday evening 9 hole, league members only (first tee time typically 4:30pm)

  • Wednesday evening 9 hole, league members only (first tee time typically 4:30pm)

  • Saturday & Sunday morning 18 hole, league members only (first tee time typically 8:30am)

  • Saturday & Sunday afternoon 9 hole, league members permitted to invite non-league guests to join them (first tee time typically 3:45pm)

League events, programs, and games

  • Opening Nine & Dine event in May

  • Closing event in September

  • Sip ‘n’ Swing - reserved bays at the driving range every other Friday night

  • Season-long ringers program

  • Season-long Match Play

  • Off-season social events

Tournament play

We send and subsidize league entrants to local tournaments and charity events. Annual tournaments include:

  • Spring Team (inter-league competition with other local leagues through Mass Golf)

  • Abigail Adams (inter-club competition with other women’s leagues at municipal courses)

  • Fall Cup team (inter-league competition with other local leagues through Mass Golf)

  • Dolly Sullivan team (Mass Golf women’s event at rotating courses)

Rules

Leadership & Structure

The BWGA is an unincorporated club and we are not a 501(c)(3) organization. We are overseen by a triad board, voted in by our members. The current board members are:

  • Allyson Cronan Shields, President

  • Maeve Duggan, Vice President and Secretary

  • Courtney Lemoine, Treasurer

Our board alums and members have created a tremendous community. Additionally, we have many spectacular members who volunteer their time to help keep the league activities plentiful and robust. Our 2026 volunteers include:

  • Ashley Fries, Social Media wrangler

  • Beth Hurney, Ringers captain

  • Beth Ann Strollo, Sunshine officer

  • Courtney Lemoine, day captain for Tuesdays

  • Deb Graham, day captain for Wednesdays

  • Janis Owens, day captain for Saturdays and Sundays

  • Kerry Sullivan, Mass Golf tournament chair

Membership Policy

Our league is committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members. We reserve the right to manage league membership at our discretion, including limiting capacity to ensure a high-quality experience for all participants.

We also reserve the right to deny or revoke membership for individuals whose behavior is not aligned with our core values. This includes conduct that is disruptive, disrespectful, or otherwise detrimental to the spirit and integrity of the league.

By paying annual dues, members agree to the BWGA Participation Agreement and Liability Waiver, and agree to uphold these standards and contribute to a positive experience for everyone involved.
